Exemption record, 1876-[ongoing].

Any resident of Alabama is entitled to claim a homestead or personal property exempt from levy and sale under execution or other process. The probate judge shall record such claims in a book kept for that purpose (see Ala. Code, 6-10-20 and 21 [1975]). Each entry contains a description of the property claimed for exemption, the value of the property, and the name of the individual making the claim. This record began in 1876 and continues to the present.
